Looking into MCA history of 60 years, I’m afraid this is the only time an attempt at reform is seriously underway. And this is happening in our lifetime…

Seems like young Chinese Malaysians and MCA members have a chance to stamp our mark in history.

Sigh…like it or not, we’re part of it. We can’t run away, and I see a vision of my descendent pondering on my life philosophy years later when I’m old and grey.

I wonder how would they react to my stand on

• Backbone bending, kow towing to big bro UMNO?
• Warlordism in the little world of MCA?

Heavens forbid they carry the shame at my lack of courage to be a part of change.

My personal wish is to see MCA discard its central delegate warlords, ‘triads’ and their leftovers, through a reform.

I guess I don’t have to like Ong Tee Keat. I don’t have to like Chua Soi Lek. I don’t have to like the likes of Liow Tiong Lai, the tearful Wee Ka Siong or Chew Mei Fun either.

I don’t relish wearing face mask or wear black + light candles (my parents hate it and frown upon it as they deem it very sueey reserved for sanctity of human funeral). Won’t get anything done, wasting time.

Should I or shouldn’t I talk to all of these MCA leaders directly? What, How, Got to think how to go about it?

Me pity this young Hamlet, he should just go ahead and question his leaders directly. Go get them and dialogue, query and query those people to heart’s content… Be the change you want to be, man!

In fact, MCA members and the chinese community who want reform should seriously look into the MCA that members want and check out the real agenda of all their leaders(and their backroom handlers) involved.

Members should go and give the players a strong message what they want these appointed ’leaders’ to do for MCA. Speak up now or remain silent forever.

Will MCA Central Committee dare to show some guts?

Some strange things happened on 10 October, 2009:

My friend’s mom cried.

My lawyer’s tongue went numb.

My Pakatan Rakyat supporter bro wished MCA members good luck and fun with the line dancing Ng Yen Yen.

My drinking friends cursed the MCA central delegates with the most colourful epithets. (trust me.)

With a little help from the brave doctor Chua Soi Lek who hung MCA’s party constitution out to dry, here’s the list from a blogger which me thinks will kill and will help Pakatan Rakyat bury MCA for good:

1. Too many factions (warlords?).

2. Too many mediocre personalities.

3. Too many rent-seeking personalities.

4. Too little effort in engaging the real community.

5. Too much effort in engaging associations filled with rent-seeking personalities.

6. Too much parochialism borne from an education system that is detached from the mainstream of the nation.

7. Too little effort in recruiting the best minds.

8. Too much effort in rewarding sycophants.

MCA’s history is based on wheeling-dealing. Genuine reform cannot take place unless the apex leaders disengage with the moneyed class. But how does one turn on one’s own genetic parentage?

This is the fundamental reality that the MCA needs to deal with. Can the existing leadership and membership do so?

And so, after the departure of a rare MCA species ‘dare to be a hero’ Ong Tee Keat, I hazard to predict that MCA’s future will be back to bland lapdog life.

Comatose existence with daily bland routine of licking the master’s hands.

tsk, tsk, tsk…

Unless, the MCA Central Committee accidently chanced upon an iota of courage within their bosoms to stand together and defy big brother UMNO and Tun Dr. Mahathir’s wish to get rid of the Chinese community’s preferred President.

It’ll be fun to find out how UMNO deals with a biting rather than licking MCA.

But let’s get back to real life, now.

The real D Day will be on Thursday 15 October, 2009. Not the EGM as some central delegates were led to believe by their handlers.

I’m tired of politicians/activists/religious officials carting out religion and God everytime our political parties are facing people and issues management problem.

When are we going to see political parties handle issues as they are by the horns without misleading the already worried public by mixing elements of religion and God into the issue?

Sure seems like everyone is unable or unwilling to work out direct solutions to issues.

Or is everyone just loving a dramatic life too much that we just skirt around the provisions already provided by some boring law?

Sigh… Thomas Hobbes* is still correct after all these years.

An Open letter to all Malaysian bloggers and blog commentators

Dear caring Malaysians,

Greetings.

I am writing to you on a matter of great urgency which cannot be held back anymore as the health of our nation is in great distress.

Before proceeding, kindly allow me to register this caveat,

“This post is written with the intention not to demean, hurt anybody’s feelings, slander or just an empty criticism to score a political point.”

Back to the business of this letter.

I am sure many of us have written, commented and discussed many issues shouted out everyday by the newspapers and blogs. Many with email addresses have not managed to escape the uncountable forwarded emails from friends which brings ‘news’ of distressing accusations (slander?) against another human being.

As people of admirable cultural background and gentle nature, this identity was not found demonstrated in what we write and speak. Not in the blogs and newspapers. Not in our kopitiam forums.

Daily vitriolings, scoldings are lashed on anybody/things, especially so if we do not like he/she/that. A friend decided that this must be the result of commando style upbringing which brook no dissenting viewpoints or approvals for efforts made lest the child gets inflated and big headed from too much self pride.

Imagine no words used to recognise however small the efforts at home or the workplace for the child or the adult. Slowly, the spirit die… unless the individual has the most hard of heart and resolute of mind.

We treat fellow Malaysians badly in blogs, we scold them, some simply f…k another for having a different view. Very seldom bloggers and commentators can offer ideas or recognise efforts made by friends and imagined foes especially of the political opposite.

A blog is not just a blog. A comment is not just a comment. It reflects the writer’s true moral nature and the real love or spite residing within. Anything written by us will document just that.

However, I see hope.

I found that there is a handful of bloggers and commentators who are able to rise above the noise, with admirable rational civility in discourse, helping us to uplift our thinking to a higher level.

May we see more of your tribe to rise, to help nurture fellow rakyat to be lovers of rationality, logic and truth as Malaysia tries to carve a place for itself in the future of economic technology.

Best Chinese New Year message from Ong Tee Keat

If you are like me, who squirms and wiggles from massive allergic reaction to the normal doodahdoodah messages from your normal politicians, you’d praise high heavens and its angels for sending you somebody to give your ears something better to listen and brains to digest.

Especially for something as big as CNY. Nothing is as big as CNY for us Chinese. Therefore, the CNY message must be befitting and not insult our intelligence or test our patience for the long year ahead.

I recommend you this nice CNY message to send to your family, friends and everybody (that makes the sender looks intelligent for once.)

MCA must make more of him. I like thinking politicians who dare to say the unsaidable in the government.

Malaysiakini and Malaysia-today must also give space lah to highlight the better politicians from MCA. We seldom hear news of this one on the net.

MIC leader shot dead in Johor

Man, the times are a changin… looks like Johor is one up already in hoarding the newspaper’s titillating bits.

This afternoon, an MIC Vice President was shot dead. In the Johor MIC HQ. Inside its lift.

Malaysiakini reported that MIC Johor deputy chairman and Tenggaroh State Assemblyman, S. Krishnasamy was shot at close range by unknown assailant, who then rushed off. Poor Johor Puteri MIC, R. Vithayamohan had an unpleasant shock when she discovered his body in the lift.

Guess which MIC division the late S. Krishnasamy (a contractor by profession) looks after?

UMNO the naughty mullah

Nice diversion, this Chua Soi Lek naughty thingy. So titillating, that we’ve put more important issues to the backburner. Latest body snatching and this new dilemma imposed onto the people’s peace -

“I don’t know whether the basis of the government’s ban on the use of the word Allah by non-Muslims is political or religious. But if in today’s age of globalisation we are stopping people of one religion from using the words ‘belonging’ to another, I don’t know where we are heading.”

This was among the question raised today by Malaysian Gurdwara Council head, Harcharan Singh following reports of the UMNO government’s ban against allowing the use of purportedly ‘Islamic’ terms e.g. ‘Allah’ by non-Muslims.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Abdulllah Mohd Zin announced on 3 Jan. that the cabinet had disallowed Catholic publication Herald from using the words Allah (God), solat (prayer), Kaabah and baitullah (House of God) in its weekly’s Bahasa Malaysia section. Abdullah, who oversees Islamic religious affairs, said the prime minister had directed him to clarify the matter so that the public would not be confused. “One of the reasons given to uphold the restriction is because that it has long been the practice of this country that the word Allah refers to God according to the Muslim faith,” said Abdullah, according to The Star.

“It was only proper for other religions to use the word God and not Allah when referring to their God in respective beliefs,” Abdullah added.

For centuries, Sikhs have used the words ‘Allah’ to refer to God as well as the Arabic terms ‘iman’ and ‘ibadat’ for faith and worship. “We have used the terms Allah and Rahim (Most Merciful), for example, extensively in our writings and in our prayers to refer to the One God. The word Allah is used in our main holy scripture.”

“Sikh gurus in India have used these terms for centuries, they have become part of the Punjabi language, and we are still using them today,” said Harcharan. “In addition to these words, we also use the terms ‘iman’ and ‘ibadat’ among the many other words (that are used by Muslims),” added Harcharan, whose organisation represents Sikhs in Malaysia.

“If the word Allah has been banned for use by non-Muslims, what’s going to happen to Sikhs and the practice of their religion?” he asked.

Why la, the UMNO government always dip their pinkies into these issues of personal spirituality? Leave the people alone to deal with their relationship with God! Go and focus on the business of government! Your mandate given in 2004 was not to become the official mullah of Malaysia!

The angles, rumours and speculations running amok now. Place your bets now: Political or sordid affair gone wrong or a syndicate’s revenge?

Easy logic, just compare overall results brought to the community under their wing.  Rest assured, we’ll adjust our comparison when the ‘not yet in government’ opposition get their act together and give us some substance.
