Guilty. Malaysia Members of Parliament

Was too angry to post anything last few days.

How can one not be angry when a good man was betrayed in death by the laws of the country and a man who caused his sufferings and eventual death was virtually let off with a slap on the wrist? Imagine his family’s feelings at being let down by law.

Read this.

Do you know, we cannot blame the courts or the judge, as they can only be guided by laws set by Parliament. We have to be aware the instrument to protect the country and its people is the Malaysia laws and in this case, the transport laws have not moved with the times!

How come important laws have not been updated before we were told by Najib Razak that we should dream to become a high income nation?

What have all our Member of Parliaments and NGOs been doing all these years? So busy with Barisan Nasional or Pakatan Rakyat partisanship that they neglected to fight to update laws to protect the real rakyat?

Don’t give me the excuse ‘because one is not the government, one cannot do anything’. It is now time to name and find out if any of our MPs has been faithfully ‘memperjuangkan’ laws be updated to protect the rakyat. Let’s see if we can make up even a minimum total of 10% from the 222 MPs in the house fulfiling their responsibility to push for laws updating.

MPs, you are the ones who should say sorry to the nation, you are part of the body responsible that made Malaysians lives cheap enough for hit and run perpetrators all these years.

This coming general election, we must question all election candidates thoroughly before we even consider to donate a vote to them – Ask them bluntly and demand for substantive reply on what will they do to push laws to be updated so that justice can be fair to the people, or a husband, a father, a grandfather like Ong Kim Koon. Rakyat should not be apologetically relegated to just a number in the statistics just because of archaic laws – MPs do you job or risk be replaced in next GE.

Just do it, Chua Soi Lek

Never knew so many Malaysians suffer from Hamlet’s Syndrome….

So little time, but soooo much wasting of precious hours analyzing to death the facts that everybody, including my favourite char kuey teow man already knows about BN and MCA – the fall guy flavour of the month.

There comes a time, when we heed a certain call, that the organisation, must stand, stand together as one…. (or at least fight a good fight).

How now, brown cow?

1. Create value for your members

Give them a sense of pride, that being a card carrying member matters – give each of your subscribing members the power to decide who to lead MCA as a political party instead of MCA as a social welfare organisation. Still don’t get it? Direct election of the Central Committee is the answer.

2. Get rid of bad salesmen/saleswomen aka grassroot leaders

It is intolerable for any business, to have salesmen/saleswomen who just don’t and won’t get the job done to get the buy-in from customers or members for the organisation’s products/services. If MCA divisional leaders are unable to sell MCA the political party to the grassroots, get rid of these lousy salesmen. If your grassroots leaders are unable to jump up the benchmark above ‘longkang’ pointing mode, get rid of them.

Bring in those who can tell and sell MCA to Malaysians of all colours. Remember how MCA once had 15 Member of Parliaments before 2008? Can you afford to have 0 MPs whom can be perceived able to speak up on policy matters in Parliament in the next General Election?

3. Just do it, Chua Soi Lek!

Let’s see if the MCA members made the right choice choosing Chua Soi Lek to do the job to take charge of the 61 year old party’s turnaround – from a social welfare organisation into a political party of choice for Malaysians.

Hulu Selangor (P.94) by-election

Good to hear that BN is giving chance to first timer contestant and fresh face to election, P. Kamalanathan (MIC information chief).

Good also to hear PKR is fielding Zaid Ibrahim, a former minister in Malaysian government (also previously Kota Bahru MP 2004-8).

Good luck to independent candidates: Johan Mohd Diah and  V.S. Chandran.

It is very interesting to hear both sides of Barisan Nasional and Pakatan Rakyat extolling what they think is good and wanted by people of Hulu Selangor.

Dear Hulu Selangorians, are all these representative proclamations made on your behalf good enough to represent what you, the Hulu Selangorians really want?

Would you be easily swayed by people who belittle you on your choice or decision to support a particular candidate?

Would you succumb to wishes of people who feed you rumours, unsubstantiated stories or scandals unrelated to your pursuit of happyness or daily existence as an everyday constituent of Hulu Selangor?

Remember, your decision and who you elect to represent your voice in Parliament as Hulu Selangor MP on the 25 April 2010 is your right to bear.

31 August, 2008 Merdeka: What’s the name of that song before Tanggal 31?

Disbelieving Malaysiakini‘s piece: ‘Racism still haunts nation at 51st Merdeka’, I switched on RTM on TV1 at 12:10am (yes, for the second time this year, you can pop that wine cork again…)

Wah…. very big crowd at Dataran Merdeka celebrating Merdeka together with our Yang DiPertuan Agong and VVIPs.

The camera trained on those VVIPs singing and swaying on stage and I saw… horrors… was that Abdullah Ahmad Badawi aka Pak Lah holding back tears whilst everybody were singing a particularly gusty patriotic song?

I did not catch that song’s name which came on before the Sudirman made famous song ‘Tanggal 31’. Now, what’s that song that got our PM all patriotically teary?

Also on stage, Lee Chong Wei (this badminton silver medal Olympian really is world class cos Malaysia such a small country with small people can get silver as compared with China such a big country with big number of people), Dr SMS (Remember? The astronaut passenger Syed Muzaffar…, that one another story)

Dr. Ng Yen Yen was enjoying the karaoke very much and swings le little Jalur Merdeka with much gusto. Yes, this type of energy will be much useful for the upcoming MCA party election.

OK, now the singing session over, my sense of rationalism kicks back.

How come only BN fellas seen on the patriotic stage? Did anybody at Jabatan Perpaduan Negara think at all to invite all our MPs (plus those non BN) on stage to lead the patriotism? The stage was not reserved for BN’s show of patriotism, right?

I see the faces of rakyat Malaysia at Dataran Merdeka, Merdeka belongs to all rakyat Malaysia, man! Nobody can monopoly or copyright Merdeka!

I wonder if we dare face the truth of Merdeka ‘sacrifice’? Dare we really to sit down together to reflect on what was and is Merdeka now? Anybody realise that Merdeka has undergone transformations since the original Tunku Abdul Rahman’s version of 1957?

I’ll reserve my next GE vote for any politician with guts to take on this ‘project’ –

For Malaysia to successfully reach 2020, for our young to experience the Merdeka spirit, how do we connect Merdeka with our current aspirations? 1957’s Merdeka was a physical liberation from the shackles of British penjajah’s ‘divide and rule’. 1963’s Merdeka elevated our ‘Merdeka’ to ‘Federalism’ of Malaysia+Sabah+Sarawak on 16 September. Do you think that 2008’s Merdeka represents the awakening of the rakyat’s sense of citizenry? How should we recognise and pass on Merdeka to our young ones?

Tis heavy, ain’t it, this subject of nationalism and citizenry.

So, for you who claim yourself a Malaysian, which version of the Merdeka are you honouring now? What version of Merdeka will you honour next year and the next….? Instead of writing about it only in blog commentaries, will you make some efforts to be hand in hand with your fellow rakyat Malaysia of various colours, hitam manis, kuning langsat, coklat or putih to honour Merdeka?

Chua Soi Lek the naughty boy

After a few days of suspense, all is confirmed today at Chua’s press conference in Labis (his constituency). Bernama radio, the pontificating station has it broadcasted live at about 4:30ish through handphone (!).

Those of you unlucky ones who have courtesy copy of the dvd, better hand it over to the police because it is now a police case. If my grandmother is alive, she’ll smack me proper if I have the dvd cos it’s rude to watch a private act between lovers.

Health Minister Chua Soi Lek today openly admitted that he was the person featured in a video depicting a man having sex with a woman purportedly in a hotel room.

Chua, 60, who is also MCA vice-president, made the confession at a press conference this afternoon in his parliamentary constituency in Labis, Johor.

However, he said that he will not resigned as minister but will instead let Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi to decide on his fate.

The senior MCA leader, who is married with three children, also said that the 30-something woman featured in the video clip was a personal friend.

Over the past three days, the Chinese dailies have reported that free DVDs – allegedly showing the politician in various sexual antics with a woman – were first distributed in Muar and later, Batu Pahat and Seremban.

The scandal first broke on Saturday when copies of the DVD were anonymously placed in various streets in Muar town for people to collect. Some copies were even distributed by unknown individuals to a number of shops in the area.

Hindraf: Analysis, Commentaries and Solidarity (after the fact)

 

It’s strange that we do not hear many people expressing their solidarity with the HINDRAF walkers before 25 Nov happened. The solidarity meter climbed up high after we have been exposed to last Sunday’s visual stimuli. Amazing… a proof that did not fail to remind that humans are firstly, visual creatures.

I hope Mr Lim Kit Siang will not to come up with a label like perhaps, ‘2511’ for this event. Guess it’s the apek thingy to put numbers for every significant things. I suppose it makes it so much easier to remember and for trying one’s luck punting at Toto, Magnum and the horse thingy (can’t remember the name, me not punter).

It’s good Mr Lim Kit Siang did the jig with Mr SK Devamany about Hindraft at Parliament. However, I don’t think Mr SK Devamany must be punished by all sides (BN and opposition players).

Look, the way I see it, Mr Devamany was just doing his duty speaking as a member of the ruling government (BN) in the Al-Jazeera interview. In Parliament, however, Mr Devamany should be looked at as not merely a representative of the government but first and foremost- a Member of Parliament for Cameron Highlands constituency. A functional Parliament recognises MPs, not government servants lar… Thus, logical for his articulation in Parliament on behalf of his fellow Malaysians. By his actions, it shows somewhat that he is aware of his responsibilities.

I feel it’s a bit hasty on the part of some of us to cast the first stones at Mr Devamany. As I turn the kaleidoscope, I could not help but feel the action of Mr Devamany is more honourable than those who were or are unable to draw a clear distinction between their position in government/political parties and elected roles as MP (or MP in waiting). Maybe because Mr Devamany did what he did at Parliament because he also sits on the Parliamentary Special Select Committee on Integrity. Maybe.

How I wish our shackled mainstream journalists are allowed to write events as such without bias… free to exercise their viewpoints from all angles, multi-perspectives. I also wish Malaysiakini.com would also try to give us more multi-perspectival reporting. The forth estate has a role to stimulate us. As Evanescence would sing, “Bring me to life“.

Then, there may be hope yet for the government and reform for all its players within/out the system, for now and eternity. Sigh*
